Welcome + What I'm Up To!

horardv

Hi everyone! I am Victoria Horard, a second-year student at Northeastern University. I am currently pursuing a Health Science degree and just picked up minors in Biology and Psychology this semester. I’m on the pre-physician assistant track, which means I’ll be completing prerequisites to apply to PA school once I graduate from Northeastern. I am from Dedham, MA, a small suburb right outside of Boston and love being close to home.

I’ve always enjoyed being an active member of my community by being involved in clubs, sports, and community service. With the many clubs and activities running at Northeastern, it’s been easy to do the same here in Boston. Recently, I’ve stayed busy with the Interdisciplinary Women’s Collaborative as I’m planning an event for the College of Health Sciences. It’s been a great opportunity to connect with people on campus and be a leader in Bouvé! Just the other week, I volunteered at Community Servings as part of the pre-PA society at Northeastern, where we prepared boxes of healthy, shelf-stable foods to be delivered across Boston. I am also a Bouvé Ambassador which allows me to interact with prospective students in informational sessions and events on campus!

Currently, I am in the process of applying for the Fall 2022 co-op cycle. It’s been amazing to see all the positions offered to Health Science students and the range of opportunities available in clinical, research and public health fields. For the physician assistant programs I am interested in, I’ll need anywhere from 500-2,000+ hours of patient care experience to apply, so I’m focusing on Medical Assistant positions for my co-op cycles. Most of the co-ops opened mid-February, and after applying to 16 positions I’m waiting to hear back for interviews. While I wait, I've been researching information about each of the clinics/hospital departments I’ve applied to and asking around for other people’s experiences on their coops. One of the most fun parts of getting ready for co-op has been taking the clinical skills course offered to prepare students for clinical positions. Last weekend I received my CPR/Basic Life Support Certification through the course. Here's me practicing chest compressions on one of the infant manikins!

Thank you so much for reading, and if you having any questions about Health Sciences, being pre-PA or Northeastern in general, feel free to email me (horard.v@northeastern.edu)!
