Resetting After Winter Break

horardv

Hi everyone! As we move into the third week of the semester, I wanted to share some ways I've been readjusting to life on campus after being on co-op.

I haven't taken classes on campus since last April, so I've had to do a lot of preparation to get used to the schedule and routine of having classes, work and making time for extracurriculars and social life. It has been tough so far, but I've already found a few things to help me through the transition!

Starting with the basics: organize all your class information and schedules. I like to have a notion page dedicated to all my assignments and when they're due for each class. Also, my google calendar is synced to my course schedule so I can see where I'm supposed to be and when. These two things help me get a feel for what my day-to-day will look like and from here, I can plan all my other activities.

Other tips I have for resetting after a long break:

  1. Being productive in-between classes

During these first few weeks, when you're getting back into the rhythm of class and the workload hasn't piled up yet, it can be tempting to go back to your dorm and chill out between classes. I've found however, that if I spend the time getting work done, I'm much more focused throughout the day and can go home feeling less stressed about the work I haven't completed.

2. Reconnecting with friends and classmates

I'm fortunate enough that a few of my classes are filled with familiar faces, so I've been catching up with classmates about how their co-op experience was and what it's like being back in classes. It's helped me feel better about being a little rusty after working full-time for six months. I've also prioritized spending time with friends, since I haven't seen them since before winter break.

3. Find a convenient study spot

Once you get the hang of your typical travel route from class to class, you can find a spot on campus that will allow you to get some work done when you have a break in the day. This helps build a routine as well! I feel much better when I go home knowing what I have left to finish for the day and getting through a few assignments between classes helps a lot.

I hope everyone's first few weeks of class are going well!

Until next time,

Victoria
